Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Plant Aid?

A: Plant Aid is a topical herbal balm crafted with a blend of traditionally used botanicals infused in nourishing carrier oils. It’s designed to soothe minor aches, support skin comfort, and provide a calming aromatic experience.

Q: What are the key ingredients in Plant Aid?

A: Plant Aid contains infused oils of comfrey leaf, yarrow, St. John’s wort, and plantain leaf, blended with virgin coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, beeswax, and a touch of arrowroot powder for texture. Each herb has a long history of traditional topical use for skin and muscle comfort.

Q: How do I use Plant Aid?

A: Gently massage a small amount into clean, dry skin over areas of minor discomfort, such as strained muscles, bruised tissue, or sore joints. For best results, apply 2–3 times daily or as needed. Avoid use on broken or deeply wounded skin (especially due to comfrey’s allantoin content).

Q: Is Plant Aid safe for sensitive skin?

A: Plant Aid is formulated with gentle, plant-based ingredients and is generally well tolerated. However, we recommend doing a patch test on a small area of skin first, especially if you have known sensitivities to any of the botanicals listed.

Q: Can I use Plant Aid on open wounds or deep cuts?

A: No. While some ingredients (like plantain) have traditional use for minor scrapes, Plant Aid contains comfrey leaf, which should not be applied to deep or puncture wounds due to its cell-proliferating properties. It’s best suited for intact or superficial skin.

Q: Does Plant Aid contain any synthetic fragrances or preservatives?

A: No. Plant Aid relies solely on the natural aroma of its herbal ingredients, like lemongrass and yarrow, for its refreshing citrus-herbal scent. It contains vitamin E oil as a natural antioxidant to support shelf stability, but no artificial fragrances, dyes, or synthetic preservatives.

Q: How should I store Plant Aid?

A: Keep your jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. At room temperature (around 23°C), Plant Aid remains stable for up to 12 months. Avoid introducing water into the container to maintain freshness.

Q: Is Plant Aid tested on animals?

A: Absolutely not. Plant Aid is cruelty-free and never tested on animals.

Q: Are the herbs in Plant Aid sustainably sourced?

A: Yes. We prioritize ethical wildcrafting and sustainable cultivation practices. While some ingredients are non-native, we are committed to learning from and honouring Indigenous plant knowledge, and we actively explore opportunities to incorporate more local, native species in alignment with ecological stewardship.

Q: Can I use Plant Aid during pregnancy or while nursing?

A: As a precaution, we recommend consulting with a healthcare provider before using any herbal product during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Q: Where can I buy Plant Aid?

A: Plant Aid is available online at bonares.ca, alongside other topical balms and dried botanicals designed to support everyday wellness through plant wisdom.

Q: Can Plant Aid be used on pets?

A: While Plant Aid is made with natural, plant-based ingredients, it was formulated for human topical use and has not been tested for safety on animals. Some herbs, like comfrey and yarrow, may be safe in small amounts on certain pets, but others (such as essential oils or even plant compounds like those in St. John’s wort) can be toxic to cats, dogs, or other animals, depending on species, size, and method of exposure.

We do not recommend applying Plant Aid to pets without first consulting a qualified veterinarian, especially one experienced in herbal or integrative care. Animals metabolize botanicals differently than humans, and even gentle ingredients can pose risks if ingested during grooming or applied to sensitive skin.

For your pet’s safety, it’s best to use products specifically developed and approved for animal use.

Q:  Can I use Plant Aid on children?

A:  Yes, with care. Plant Aid is suitable for children aged 2 and up, but we recommend:

  • A patch test (apply a pea-sized amount to the inner arm; wait 24 hrs)

  • Avoiding use on children under 2 unless approved by a pediatrician

  • Monitoring for sensitivity, especially due to St. John’s wort (may increase sun sensitivity)

  • Always supervise use and store out of reach.

Q:  Is Plant Aid safe for sensitive skin?

A:  We formulated Plant Aid to be gentle: no synthetic fragrances, dyes, parabens, or alcohol. The nourishing base of coconut, olive, and castor oils helps support the skin barrier. That said, botanicals are powerful! If you have known allergies (e.g., to plants in the daisy family like yarrow), start with a patch test. Your skin knows best.

Q:  How long before I see results?

A:  Many users feel soothing relief within minutes, especially for muscle tension or surface irritation. For inflammation or skin healing, consistent application often shows visible improvement in 2–5 days. With chronic concerns (like arthritic stiffness), benefits may build over 1–2 weeks. Healing is personal; listen to your body, and give it the time and care it deserves.
